What are they actually made of?
TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) is a block copolymer made of alternating hard and soft segments. The soft segments give it flexibility and elasticity, while the hard segments provide structural strength. This unique molecular structure is what enables the self-healing property – minor scratches literally close themselves when exposed to heat from sunlight or warm water.
TPH (Thermoplastic Hybrid) is a blended material – typically a mix of polyurethane with polyolefin or PVC-based compounds. The hybrid nature makes it cheaper to produce, but the blended chemistry reduces some of TPU’s elite properties, particularly self-healing depth and long-term clarity.
